Concerning Attempts to Outlaw the Socialist People’s Front
Press Statement 2013 01 18
The fictitious “democracy” of Lithuania is gradually, but firmly, approaching its limits. A very palpable attempt at a legal assault against the only true oppositional force – the Socialist People’s Front – has recently been made by the organization (LKKSS) that unites the first Lithuanian volunteers, the “freedom fighters”. This organization, which ideologically stands very closely to the various pro-fascist movements in Lithuania, has made an appeal to the Ministry of Justice to legally outlaw the only anti-capitalist political organization in the country. The Ministry asked the State Prosecution to make an investigation into the matter. The latter possibly waits until on the 22nd of January, when the Highest Court will pronounce its final verdict to Algirdas Paleckis, party chair, for his opinion about events of 13th of January 1991.
The motives put forward by those who wish to outlaw Socialist People’s Front do not in a substantial way differ from what most of the nationalistic minded groups slander the Socialist People’s Front for. These are mainly the false charges such as that this party is working for the Russian state interests within Lithuania, that it is against the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the Lithuanian state, against its constitutional order, as well as against Lithuania’s interests in the economic and military domains.
The basis for the most recent attack against the legality of the Socialist People’s Front has been the now widely reported controversy of the events of the 13th of January, 1991, and the position that the chairman of the party Algirdas Paleckis has been bravely standing for and which is contrary to the official version of those events held hitherto. With reference to that, all of the mainstream corporate media has also been escalating all of the illusionary charges against the party and its chairman.
Judging from an economic point of view, it has been the capitalist system that is to blame for the vast majority of all the misfortunes that have befell to the Lithuanian people; as for the political side, it is the achievement of the right-wing nationalistic forces with the conservative party at their forefront that Lithuania, after regaining independence following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, has become a satellite state of the US imperialism. And certain people will never forgive the Socialist People’s Front for highlighting these objective facts.
Our fight is just and therefore we shall win.
