The Regime is Beginning to Prosecute the Witnesses Who Testified in the Case of A. Paleckis

   On the 21st of November at 13:30 in the First district court (Laisvės pr. 79A) the trial of the Vilnius citizen Danguolė Raugalienė – who testified in the case of Algirdas Paleckis concerning the 13th of January – will begin. There will be a protest picket by the Socialist People‘s Front nearby the court. The testimony by Danguolė Raugalienė at the trial of A. Paleckis, according to which she saw people on the roofs at the night of the 13th of January who were shooting down, is allegedly „false evidence“. D. Raugalienė is facing up to two years in prison. The prosecutor is the same as was in the trial against A. Paleckis - Egidijus Šleinius – whose „speciality“ is the suppresion of the freedom of speech.

   The same kind of charge has been put forward against another witness, also a Citizen of Vilnius Jaunutis Lekas. Even though this person of a respectful age has recently suffered his third stroke and an operation during which his kidney was removed, he is about to face the same kind of trial in the near future... And solely because of telling what he had seen.

   This is what these brave and respectful people testified in the case of A. Paleckis:

   Danguolė Raugalienė: “That night I was at the tower. I saw shots from the roofs. They were shooting towards the youth that was standing near the fence. I saw that since the bullets were illuminated, tracer bullets – it was possible to see whereto they were flying. I saw how people would collapse because of those bullets. There were people walking around within the crowd who urged the people not to retreat, but rather to move towards the sphere where those tracer bullets were hitting, since „they were empty bullets, nobody would get shot“. The USSR soldiers were not shooting. If they had been shooting, perhaps there would not be any Karoliniškės district left. Even now there are many witnesses left, however they are afraid to give testimonies over that.”

   Jaunutis Lekas: ”On the night of the 13th of January I was near the tower of Television in Karoliniškės. On the roof of a five-storey building I noticed a few persons. They were not soldiers since it was possible to see civilian silhouettes. There were flashes and outbursts of shots from there. Those were not machine-guns, since there were solitary shots. They might have aimed at the people, or at the soldiers. And the USSR soldiers – I saw them shooting not at the people but in front of their feet. If they had been shooting at the people and with real bullets, there would have been a lot of blood”.

   The people saw and testified that. They are not the only ones that saw that. Hundreds of them did... Unpleasant information, indeed. It gives a blow to the right-wing mythology. Fascism begins with the pretension to control our thoughts.

   No repression will stop the river from flowing. The whole truth about the 13th of January begins to unravel.
