Statement of the Executive Committee of the Public Movement "Venceremos"

   Dear Sir Ambassador!

   On the day of the notorious jubilee – the 50th anniversary of the Human Rights Declaration adoption we would like to express on behalf of the public association “Venceremos” our attitude towards Mengistu Haile Mariam, a first-rate military and political figure of Ethiopia, one of the leaders of the Ethiopian revolution. In hard revolutionary struggle Mengistu Haile Mariam became one of the initiators of the course for consistent implementation of essential social and economic reforms (nationalization of large industrial enterprises, banks, land, etc.), for development of national-democratic revolution in Ethiopia and for construction of socialist society. We appreciate highly the support lent to the ardent revolutionary, the fighter for people’s happiness Mengistu Haile Mariam by the Government of Zimbabwe and first of all by the President Mugabe. We are completely sure – notwithstanding how counter-revolution rages in modern Ethiopia, the case of social progress would win in that country, too.

   We use this opportunity to express our compassion to the people of Zimbabwe on the case of cholera epidemic having burst over the country. We wish success and prosperity to the friendly people of Zimbabwe and good health and longevity to the President Mugabe.
