WFDY Statement on the Atomic Bombing Anniversary

   It’s been 73 years since the Bomb was dropped on #Hiroshima and, a few days later, on #Nagasaki, Japan. That week in August changed the world forever when the USA committed one of the worst crimes in the history of humanity.

   The World Federation of Democratic Youth condemns in the most vehement way the bombing from the United States of two Japanese cities in the moment when Japan was ready to surrender and the war in Europe had already ended.

   73 years later after the #nuclear disaster, imperialism with even more brutality is still slaughtering the peoples all over the world. 73 years later and the aggression of imperialism is still escalating with the continuing militarisation, the increase of the military budgets and the use of science and technology in the service of war. The imperialist powers are getting more and more weaponized and the development of nuclear weapons continues and increases.

   We repeat our position for termination of the development of nuclear weapons. As imperialism doesn’t hesitate in front of any crime, we are certain that a nuclear war is not impossible, but we are also certain that, through the reinforcement of the struggle for #Peace, we can prevent it.

   Honouring the victims of imperialism all around the earth #WFDY calls all the peace-loving forces, all the anti-imperialist youth to struggle for a world without nuclear weapons, for a planet with peace social justice and lasting peace.
