Earthquake in Turkey and Syria

   On the 6th of February, an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 shook the countries of Turkey and Syria. In the face of this natural catastrophe, we must denounce that the suffering caused is not only due to natural causes but that its impact has been multiplied by capitalism in its imperialist phase. The suffering has increased because of imperialist interference, aggressions, sanctions and wars.

   In the case of Syria, we denounce that the high number of victims is essentially due to imperialist interference. In the face of a catastrophe like this, the criminal sanctions are still being maintained, making it impossible for them to receive aid, sanitary materials and other basic elements for their subsistence, and being the Syrian people and youth the main ones affected. That is why, today more than ever, it is urgent to put an end to the sanctions of the imperialist forces (especially the Caesar Act by the USA) against Syria.

   In the face of such a catastrophe, only the people can save the people. That is why we want to salute the experiences of popular self-organisation that are emerging in Turkey, Syria and around the world to cope with the consequences of the earthquake: providing medical assistance, organising support networks, helping to save lives, sending aid internationally, and so on. We salute our comrades in the affected countries, as well as in the rest of the world, who are showing their internationalist solidarity by contributing militantly to overcome this catastrophe.

   In this situation in which it is clearly seen how this cruel system multiplies the suffering of the youth and the people of the world in the face of a natural catastrophe, we call on the youth to redouble their solidarity. Let's stand up to imperialist barbarism, its interference, aggressions, sanctions and wars that multiply the suffering of the people; let's struggle for a world free of exploitation and any kind of oppression.
