S. Korean Activist Jailed for 4 Years over Trip to N. Korea

   A Seoul court has sentenced a leftist South Korean activist to four years behind bars for an illegal visit to the North.

   Last year, No Su-hui crossed into North Korea through China to attend a ceremony commemorating the 100th day anniversary since the death of Kim Jong-il. He was arrested on return.

   The court ruling said a severe punishment was unavoidable because No Su-hui went to North Korea illegally and took part in social events there knowing his participation could be used for propaganda.

   Seoul didn’t send any official representatives to Kim Jong-il’s funeral but allowed two private delegations to honour the death of the North Korean leader.

   We strongly denounce the prison sentence on Mr Ro Su Hui

   The International Committee for the Release of Mr Ro Su Hui strongly denounces the south Korean so-called authorities(in reality a gang of fascist puppets who lick the posteriors of the American imperialists) for the 4 year jail sentence imposed on vice -chairman Mr Ro Su Hui.

   The Seoul Central District Court of south Korea sentenced Ro Su Hui, vice-chairman of the South Headquarters of the Pan-national Alliance of Korea's Reunification (Pomminryon), to 4 years in prison and 4 years' suspension of qualifications. It also sentenced the general secretary of Pomminryon) to three years in prison and three years' suspension of qualifications on charges of violation of the draconian " National SecurityLaw".

   This is an outrageous and despotic act against Mr Ro who had simply campaigned for peace and reunification. All he did was to visit the northern half of his own country, this should not be considered a crime.

   Mr Ro was subjected to brutal treatment when he crossed back into south Korea and was held without trial for more than 6 months in south Korea. Mr Ro is is over the age of 65 and he is suffering from cancer. This is a most inhuman act of the south Korea regime.

   The jail sentence is the action of those who want to create an atmosphere of fascist terrorism in south Korea and intimidate those who genuinely aspire after independent reunification

   We demand that the jail sentence on Mr Ro is rescinded forthwith and he is released from jail ! INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR THE RELEASE OF VICE-CHAIRMAN RO SU HUI
