Picket Line in Support of Kurds in Leningrad

   To: Consul-general

   of the Turkish Republic

   in St.Petersburg

   Mr. Kazym Chavushoglu

7th Sovetskaya str. 24, St. Petersburg

   From: Public members

   of St. Petersburg

We, members of the "Left Front – Leningrad", "VRY – Leningrad", the "Labour Russia" movement, the community "For Qaddafi and his people" movement and other left-wing public and political organizations, and the city residents have come on March, 7, 2016 to the Consulate-General of Turkish Republic for support action for the Kurdistan Workers' Party (KWP) and its leader Abdullah Ocalan.

We demand that Turkey stops military operations, military and political repression against the KWP activists, that it abandons the policy of genocide against Kurdish people, liberates the KWP leader Abdullah Ocalan from custody as well as stops repression against Turkish journalists who cover the problem objectively.

We consider that such Ankara's actions may grow into a full-scale military conflict уengaging other countries, that the problem emerged should be immediately acknowledged by international community which should demand in a hard-lined form that the Turkish authorities solve it.

We consider the KWP a vanguard of the Kurdish people, the people which has become a hostage of political games, whose history was full of pain and suffer.

The Turkish authorities hardly and subsequently take a rather negative position on the problem of Kurdish autonomy. Official acknowledgment of Kurds as a nation possessing all the complex of civil rights is necessary. Kurds should be given equal rights with the Turkish population, the Kurdish language should be legalized, conditions for national culture development should be guaranteed.

The world stands on the verge of the 3rd world war, and the Turkish authorities' trample of national minorities' rights and freedoms might become one of the factors provoking its outbreak. There are many hard pages in the common history of our peoples but it is not limited only to wars and mutual offences. We speak of the assistance rendered by the Soviet Russia creator Vladimir Ilyich Lenin to the first President of Turkish Republic Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

In the 1920es our countries, having turned out to be under incredibly hard conditions, under the threat of direct military intervention, have lent a helping hand to each other, that helped the new Turkish Republic establishment and laid the basis for the state we see today at the world political map.

The intercommunion and wide-range co-operation level achieved at those years would for a long time remain a unique reference which new generations of politicians, public persons, common people would aspire to again and again.

The wisdom of Atatürk, one of the greatest politicians of the 20th century, becomes especially evident nowadays. As the modern Turkish nation creator, he has devoted his whole life to leading his people to the way of progress, having liberated it from the medieval ideology and obscurantism manacles. It is hard to see that in fact today leading Turkish politicians reject the legacy of their great antecessor, taking the cue from violence and destruction prophets, fanning the flames of war at the Middle East.

Our destiny gives us an opportunity to write a new positive chapter in our countries' history, and we have no right to miss this chance!

We ask to pass our appeal to the Turkish Republic leadership and to inform us by address:

   Maksim G. Malyshev

   Piskarevsky avenue – 20 – 300

   St. Petersburg, Russia
