Great National Unity Is Way for Independent Reunification: Rodong Sinmun

   Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- It is the most essential and urgent job for the Korean nation to realize national reconciliation and unity as it is to put an end to the tragedy of decades-long division and achieve national reunification, Rodong Sinmun Sunday says in an article.

   Noting that national reconciliation and unity is the basic prerequisite for independent and peaceful reunification of Korea, the article goes on:

   Whoever with soul of the Korean nation should sharpen vigilance against the wicked moves of the outside forces seeking aggressive interests chilling the warming enthusiasm for improvement of the north-south relations and national reunification, and resolutely reject them and actively turn out in the way for national unity.

   What is important for achieving national reconciliation and unity is to firmly preserve the principle of national independence.

   The principle of national independence is the core of settling the issue of the nation and the basis for the great national unity.

   National reunification can be successfully achieved only when the entire nation achieves great unity on the principle of national independence.

   Dependence on outsiders who divided the Korean nation and cooperation with them cannot remove the mistrust between the north and the south nor can realize national unity.

   Whoever sincerely hopes for national reconciliation, unity and reunification should advance along the way of national independence, not depending on outsiders.

   Invariable is the idea of the great national unity of the Workers' Party of Korea to unhesitatingly join hands and minds and advance along the patriotic way for national reunification with those who have national conscience even though they had opposed reunification in the past.
