Resolution of the AKM-TR and «Venceremos» Movement Picket Line at the Embassy of Hungary in Moscow on January, 25, 2008

   We representatives of the Vanguard of Red Youth of Labour Russia, the public movement «Venceremos» and other left-wing organizations have gathered here today to express our protest against the Hungarian authorities’ unprecedented pressure upon the Hungarian Communist Workers’ Party and its Central Committee.

   In June 2005 right after the European Parliament elections the HCWP Vice-President of that time Attila Vajnai started broad political and ideological attack on the party demanding fundamental change of its political line towards co-operation with the ruling Socialist party. The majority of the communists rejected such position and on March, 12, 2005 the Central Committee expelled Mr.Vajnai and his supporters from the party. Those expelled applied to the Budapest city court, and on June, 8, 2005 the court annulled the Central Committee’s resolutions. The court has restored Mr.Vajnai’s and his supporters’ party membership and their party positions having cancelled all the decisions of the 21st HCWP Congress.

   On September, 21, 2007 the Székesfehérvar city court (Hungary) has examined at first instance the case against the whole HCWP Presidium. Its President Gyula Türmer and 6 more HCWP Presidium members were accused of «public slander» and sentenced to 2 years imprisonment conditionally. They have appealed against this unjust sentence.

   We representatives of Russian left-wing community are indignant with such authorities’ interference into the party’s internal affairs. We consider the situation of the court canceling resolutions of a party’s elective body and even of its congress awkward by its essence but at the same time a dangerous precedent especially if such practice spreads to other countries.

   No regime in the history, even an openly fascist one, having prohibiting opposition parties, had ever resorted to canceling party congresses’ solutions. We express our solidarity with Hungarian comrades and demand that the unjust sentence should be quashed and the state’s absurd intervention into party’s internal affairs should be stopped.
